Greg Overton is the Head of Research Engineering at Butlr Technologies, an anonymous thermal-sensing company for the built environment, based in Seattle, WA.
I bring complex systems together and turn them into products that actually work in the real world, for the business and the people who use them.
I lead Butlr’s research engineering function, owning the path from concept through production for new technical capabilities across edge systems, data infrastructure, ML, and AI-native operations.
01 /Pioneer the adoption of emerging technologies (AI, infrastructure, developer tooling), rapidly prototyping and evaluating new approaches for technical and commercial viability.
02 /Design and unify cross-domain systems, integrating firmware, ingest, ML, and user-facing platforms into cohesive, scalable architectures.
03 /Architect core platform infrastructure, including the edge-to-cloud ingest rearchitecture (MQTT-based, durable buffering, per-tenant routing) to support reliability at fleet scale.
04 /Build AI-native operational systems, including agentic tooling, persistent Slack-based diagnostic agents, and Butlr’s open-source MCP server.
05 /Lead the development and productionization of sensing and detection systems, including the Rust-based reimplementation of core algorithms for performance and reliability.
06 /Translate exploratory research into production-grade systems, applying disciplined experimentation to validate scalability, cost, and business impact before deployment.
07 /Act as the technical bridge across Engineering, Product, and customer-facing teams, ensuring new capabilities deliver real-world value and are maintainable in production.
